VIDEO: Chris Broussard Suggests Brooklyn Nets Could Be Dark Horse Team to Land Anthony Davis
By Zack Jiang
The Anthony Davis sweepstakes will be the main story of the upcoming offseason. While the Pelicans are still trying to possibly convince Davis to stay after winning the first-overall pick, asset-loaded teams such as the Celtics, Lakers and Knicks are waiting to make enormous offers for the superstar. A new dark horse has also entered the race as Chris Broussard recently reported that the Nets will be very aggressive in pursuing Davis.
As Broussard noted, the Nets package could include D'Angelo Russell (sign and trade), Jarrett Allen and their two first-round picks (17th and 27th). While it's an appealing offer, it might not be enough unless they throw in another asset like Caris LeVert.
Broussard also pointed out that the Nets' end goal would be pairing up Davis and Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn. One complicated note about this is that Kyrie cannot negotiate a deal until June 30th, while the NBA draft is before that at June 20th. The Pelicans could want different players in the draft than the Nets, which would devalue their first round picks.
A lot of complications will arise for the Nets in their run at Davis, but don't be surprised if Sean Marks is able to work his magic and get the deal done.
The Nets have made a tremendous turnaround after destroying their future in their trade with the Celtics. They now have one of the most promising rosters and are in position to make major moves.
Brooklyn will be aggressive in their strategy in every option. Even if Davis doesn't end up on the Nets, you can expect some changes for the team next season.
