VIDEO: Christian Yelich Struck Out Looking in Bottom 10th vs Astros on Terrible Call From Umpire
By Karl Rasmussen
Christian Yelich knotted the game up against the Astros in the ninth inning, and Houston's worst fears came to be when he came up again in the bottom of the 10th with a runner in scoring position. Well, home plate umpire Ben May made a very crucial and frankly terrible called third strike against the reigning MVP on a high curveball that never came close to entering the zone, effectively setting up Houston's victory.
The kid in the stands' reaction says it all, that was simply a joke of a call from May, and at such a critical juncture in the ball game.
Clearly that pitch is high, but the Astros recorded the second out of the inning with a little help from May's misfire. Jesse James surely won't complain about sitting down Yelich without even tempting a swing on the third strike.
It wasn't the first time Yelich was rung up by May in the game, as he fell victim to the phantom strike three in the sixth inning as well.
The reigning NL MVP is probably not looking forward to the next time he plays a game with May behind the dish.
