VIDEO: Clippers Mascot Oddly Gives World War II Veteran a Wet Willy During Ceremony
By Chris Russo
Though the Los Angeles Clippers honored America's heroes on Veterans Day, one of the organization's most noticeable employees paid tribute in a somewhat inappropriate way. Yup, 104 year-old World War II veteran Sam Sachs received recognition for his service, but Clippers mascot Chuck the Condor thanked him with a wet willie.
Sachs, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, led a group of 200 men on the beaches of Normany during D-Day, fought there for a month, and helped liberate a concentration camp. Yet, while receiving an honorary framed jersey during the Clippers' matchup with the Toronto Raptors, he also received the very ill-timed wet willie from the Clippers mascot.
Aside from the crowd's roaring ovation for Sachs' service, the one upside was his response to the mascot's behavior. Sachs actually took things in stride and smiled as Chuck jokd with him, before saluting the crowd.
Sachs also served near the very end of World War II when he fought during Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands.
