VIDEO: Close-up Angle of Andrew Luck Getting Booed While Leaving Field is Utterly Devastating
By Sean Facey
Andrew Luck's retirement sent a shockwave throughout the NFL. It blindsided everybody. But the group that took his retirement the hardest were Indianapolis Colts fans, who learned of the news before the Colts' preseason game, a matchup in which Luck did not participated, had even ended. So when he walked off the field, the boo birds let him have it, and the close-up camera angle of his saddened trek to the locker room is devastating and depressing.
Here is a man who has sacrificed everything for these fans. For seven years, he endured a seemingly endless onslaught of injuries. And instead of thanking him and showing their appreciation when he finally admitted that his body couldn't handle the stress of football anymore, they gave him hell.
It's heartbreaking. Luck gave the franchise everything he had. He trails only Peyton Manning and Johnny Unitas on the Colts' all-time passing yards list. He's third in touchdowns and second in passer rating among players with at least 200 passing attempts.
The complete and utter disrespect these fans showed him is mind-boggling. The disbelief, frustration and sense of betrayal on his face is palpable.
Luck was a class act on and off of the field. He sacrificed so much for the Colts and their fans. He may not have delivered a Super Bowl, but he tried his best to do so, and it's disheartening that the fans didn't seem to recognize that in the moment.
