By Brendan Azoff
Cole Hamels' strikeout of Brian Dozier during Friday night's game against the Nationals was career No. 2,645, moving him into sole possession of 40th all-time, a milestone achievement for the lefty.
Hamels is sixth amongst active pitchers in strikeouts, and is the only lefty in the top six other than CC Sabathia. Hamels ranks ninth all-time among left hand pitchers for strikeouts, an incredible achievement for the 35-year-old.
He surpassed left-hander Mark Langston to lock up the 40th spot all-time for himself. Langston threw 2,464 strikeouts across a 16-year career, recording 457 appearances (428 starts). Hamels achieved the feat in just 295 career appearances, all but one of which was as a starter.
The four-time All-Star is once again in the midst of a stellar year, which has seen him post a 3.08 ERA and a 3-0 record so far. His next target is Jack Morris who is 39th in MLB history with 2,478 strikeouts.
