VIDEO: Colin Cowherd Has Senseless Take Contrasting LeBron James and Kevin Durant
By Kevin Aquino
Pondering hypotheticals and "what ifs" are fun and all, but leave it to Colin Cowherd to take things too far. In one of the more common debates in the NBA, comparing the careers of LeBron James and Kevin Durant, Cowherd made an absurd and entirely pointless claim.
Colin Cowherd felt the need to take a shot at Durant so badly that he stacked hypothetical upon hypothetical, saying that had LeBron joined the Warriors in 2016, won back-to-back titles, and faced the decision of leaving Golden State, he would've stayed in The Bay.
Cowherd claimed that James had "too great a sense of himself and too great a sense of history in the league" to leave the Warriors, but Cowherd is comparing the very real Kevin Durant to a fictional version of LeBron James that leaves Cleveland to win with Golden State, just after taking down the Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals.
Seriously, what is the point?
Durant joining the 73-9 Warriors often gets compared to LeBron joining up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, but teaming up with others is a part of today's league. LeBron set the tone of super teams, and so in a way, everyone is trying to copy LeBron.
This was just a creative, roundabout way for Cowherd to chastise Durant. The truth of the matter is, LeBron joining Golden State would've gotten a far more negative reaction than Durant's decision, which was arguably the single-most scrutinized decision in NBA history.
Cowherd is just trying to stir the pot, per usual, by making up meaningless scenarios and firing off shots at superstars.
