VIDEO: Cris Carter Claims His Sources Say Kawhi Leonard is Going to the Clippers
By Zack Jiang
Although Kawhi Leonard is currently preparing for an NBA Finals matchup against the Warriors, people are still speculating whether or not he leaves Toronto in the offseason. The Clippers are one of many teams that insiders have predicted as a top landing spot for the All-Star forward. However, FS1's First Things First co-host Cris Carter recently took it one step further by saying that his sources have told him that Kawhi is heading to the Clippers.
Carter brought up his sources, who he called "the streets," and claimed that they've repeatedly told him that the Clippers are the favorite to land Kawhi.
Although Carter is not the most reputable NBA insider, having practiced his trade in the NFL, it's easy to make the connection between the Clippers and Kawhi. The Clippers were one the teams brought up when Kawhi requested a trade out of San Antonio, and is located in Leonard's home-state of California. They are also in one of the most favorable positions in the NBA: loaded with assets, flexibility to create two max slots, young talent, and several valuable veterans on extremely team-friendly contracts.
Carter's sources might not have definitive information from Kawhi, but they certainly aren't wrong about the Clippers being a top option. There's no doubt they'll be hard to turn down if they get a chance to pitch an offer to The Klaw.
But all of this is still mere speculation. For all we know, Kawhi could string together a historical performance and win the Finals with Toronto this year, prompting him to return on a long-term deal.
We'll just have to wait until the offseason to see if Carter's sources were telling the truth.
