VIDEO: Cubs Catcher Victor Caratini Makes Absurdly Athletic Play While Pitching in 9th
By Max Scoli
The Chicago Cubs knew they were in a hole that they couldn't come back from, trailing the New York Mets 10-1 entering the ninth inning on Saturday. Rather than waste a bullpen arm in a losing effort, the Cubbies decided to put catcher Victor Caratini on the bump to close things out, and he made a play that absolutely none of us saw coming.
Stereotyped as the least athletic position in the MLB, this catcher was anything but sluggish, hustling over to a slow roller to make the running throw.
When it was all said and done, Caratini was actually effective, putting up zeros across the board in an inning of work for Chicago.
