VIDEO: Cubs Defeat Padres With Game-Winning Run on Eric Hosmer's Horrible Error
By Michael Luciano
Even though San Diego Padres have a legit superstar and a budding one on their roster, they aren't immune from some old-school Pads blunders to throw away games. Tied 5-5 with the bases loaded in the eighth inning against the Chicago Cubs, catcher Francisco Mejia was gearing up to try and turn an inning-ending double play, but Mejia's throw went right through Eric Hosmer's glove and into right field. The Cubs took a 6-5 lead on that play and held on for the W.
As the Padres are sliding further down the NL West standings, in part due to an inability to keep leads until Kirby Yates can save the game in the ninth inning, the mistakes have continued to mount. Hosmer might be hot at the plate, but his gaffe in the field was as rough as they come.
Well, that's a little harsh, but it's certainly beyond unacceptable for a Gold Glove first baseman.
