VIDEO: Cubs Take Brief Lead on Pinch-Hit RBI Single From Willson Contreras
By Thomas Carannante
The Chicago Cubs bolted out to an early 4-0 lead over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday afternoon, but allowed that cushion to slowly dissipate over the course of the game. They found themselves in a few tight situations after the Reds tied it up at 4-4, but after getting out of trouble and getting a couple runners on in the bottom of the eighth, Joe Maddon called on Willson Contreras to pinch it. Spoiler alert: he delivered in a big way in front of the Wrigley crowd.
With two outs, two strikes and runners on first and second, Contreras poked a low and outside pitch into right-center field to bring home Anthony Rizzo.
However, to the dismay of Cubs fans, this may all be for naught as Eugenio Suarez just clobbered a two-run homer off Steve Cishek to take the lead.
