VIDEO: David Andrews Rolls up to Patriots Practice to Support Teammates After Blood Clot Scare
By Sean Facey
The Patriots got a major scare on Monday when their star center, David Andrews, was hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs. But the big man wasn't going to let that keep him from attending practice. Despite the fact that his season is in jeopardy, Andrews showed up to support his teammates as they continue their preparation for the 2019 NFL season.
Andrews has been a key piece to both the Patriots' offense and locker room ever since the team signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015. He's been a captain since the start of the 2017 season.
It's a heartwarming sight for both him and his teammates. For him, it's a step in the right direction toward recovery. As for his teammates, it's an encouraging sign that one of the most revered players on the team is taking a positive approach in wake of some terrible news.
In his absence, the Patriots have already gotten to work by giving backup lineman Ted Karras some reps with quarterback Tom Brady. He's worked at center before, but he's primarily a guard, so he'll need the practice to get up to speed.
As for Andrews, while the team is likely hoping he can return as soon as possible, his overall wellbeing is most important.
