VIDEO: David Cone Throws Out 1st Pitch on 20th Anniversary of Perfect Game
By Brian Cass
On this day 20 years ago, New York Yankees legend David Cone threw the 16th perfect game in MLB history while facing the Montreal Expos. With the Yanks scheduled to take on their division rival Tampa Bay Rays on the 20th anniversary of Cone's perfect game (twice), who better to throw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium than Cone himself?
Cone's arm may not be what it used to be after his long 17-year career, but he still threw a perfect strike with that first pitch. Cone only played in the Bronx for five and a half seasons, but he still cemented his legacy as a Yankee great during his time there, making two All-Star appearances, winning four World Series, and of course throwing his perfect game in 1999.
We're glad the Yanks gave Cone the recognition he deserves by allowing him to toss out the first pitch in this contest.
