VIDEO: David Ortiz's NSFW Heckle for Jacoby Ellsbury After He Came to Yankees Will Always Be Funny
By Ian Anderson
Jacoby Ellsbury's catastrophic time in New York has come to an end, but this comment from David Ortiz to Ellsbury will stand the test of time. Let's reflect fondly on this beautiful moment between two (former?) friends that a hot ESPN mic once picked up during Sunday Night Baseball.
Yes, Ortiz had every Red Sox fan behind him when he shouted this at his former teammate.
It is safe to say that Ortiz's comment was justified, as Ellsbury snubbed the Red Sox and signed a hefty seven-year, $153 million deal with the Yankees back in December of 2013.
That contract stuck the Yankees in a major hole, and even still, they needed to fork over around $26 million just to get him off the roster in time for this year's MLB Rule 5 Draft.
Yankees fans were seemingly ecstatic with the release of the center fielder, and took to Twitter to celebrate. We can safely say it seems like then-GM Ben Cherington knew what he was doing when he decided to let Ellsbury walk.
Despite his meaningless contributions to the Yankees and eating a major hole in their wages, Big Papi for sure got something right about Ellsbury. He is now very, very rich.
