VIDEO: Derek Dietrich Appears to Lean into HBP and Create Self-Inflicted Dumb Conflict With Brewers
By Mark Powell
OBP is the name of the game in today's MLB, and Derek Dietrich has discovered a unique way around the rules. At least, that's what the overhead angle is telling us. In the Reds game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night, Dietrich was hit by a pitch on three separate occasions. Were they all legitimate, Dietrich and the Reds would have ample reason to retaliate. Although, upon further review...
The elbow-guard really has revolutionized the game.
Dietrich's been on the receiving end of some beanings this season, specifically from the Pittsburgh Pirates after he pimped a home run earlier in the season. He got his revenge in a later matchup, however, with a trio of bombs at Great American Ballpark.
The Reds will get the last laugh as they're pummeling the Brewers on Friday night. Still, Dietrich doesn't get to have it both ways. He's one of the faces of 'let the kids play', yet he invites conflict for next to no reason by leaning into a pitch just to get on base and then gets mad about it.
Nothing is more frustrating in baseball than a hypocrite. Dietrich is incredibly fun to watch. Hopefully this doesn't go to his head.
