VIDEO: Devin McCourty Admitting He Doesn't Like Patriots Training Camp is Oddly Refreshing
By Jerry Trotta
We don't doubt that the majority of NFL players detest training camp. How would you feel, despite your indescribable passion for football, suffering through two-a-days in the peak of summer's heat and humidity? And we can only imagine that animosity increases ten-fold when it comes to the New England Patriots' renowned adherence and compelling attention to detail. Well, defensive back Devin McCourty has spent 10 grueling seasons with the Pats and wasn't shy to reveal his feelings about the ever-important gear-up for the regular season.
"When you get to the end of the season, no one thinks back to training camp and how hard it was," the two-time Pro-Bowler continued.
If that statement doesn't come as a significant refresher, you can't call yourself a true football fan. How many times do players overlook bashing on camp because that's the professional thing to do?
For veterans -- like McCourty -- who already know the playbook like the back of their hands, camp is presumably nothing more than introducing minor tweaks to schemes and getting youngsters up to speed.
In truth, we couldn't picture another player on Bill Belichick's roster calling out the grit-and-grind than the outspoken McCourty.
Thank you, Devin, for being different and proving that not every player under Belichick's wing is a programmed robot.
