VIDEO: Diamondbacks OFs Avoid Disaster After Jarrod Dyson's Incredible Robbery of Joc Pederson's HR
By James.r
In a game the Arizona Diamondbacks had already all but secured, disaster almost struck in the outfield as center fielder Jarrod Dyson and right fielder Tim Locastro converged on a deep fly ball in the seventh inning. Luckily, the two narrowly avoided a bad collision, and instead the play resulted in a highlight-reel catch on the part of Dyson.
Well, that was a close one. The Diamondbacks (41-41) are still in the thick of the playoff race, and the 8-2 win Wednesday puts them just two games back of the second NL Wild Card.
While Locastro is a backup whose loss the team could have stomached, an injury to Dyson would have been a huge blow, as it likely would have moved second baseman Ketel Marte to center and left a gaping hole in the middle infield.
The 34-year-old Dyson's speed still makes him an asset in the outfield and on the base paths. He's a defensive stalwart and has already accumulated 17 stolen bases in an era where the steal seems to be a lost art.
Luckily, everyone's alright.
