VIDEO: Edwin Diaz Leaves Thursday's Game After Taking Line Drive Off Foot
By Karl Rasmussen
Edwin Diaz's campaign in Flushing has not gone according to plan, as the Mets' highly-regarded closer has not lived up to expectations in his debut season with the club.
Well, things could be set to get a whole lot worse for the right-hander, as he was removed from Thursday's game after taking a hard line drive off his foot.
This is bad news for both Diaz and the Mets, who were reportedly open to hearing offers for the 25-year-old hurler ahead of the trade deadline. It's unclear if the ailment will require a stint on the IL, but if he does, consider any trade possibilities out the window.
Per the first X-ray, he's fine.
On the year, Diaz has a 4.81 ERA, 61 strikeouts and a 1-6 record across 39.1 innings of work. He's blown four saves while picking up 22.
