VIDEO: Edwin Encarnacion Hammers Solo Shot to Cut Rays' Lead at Yankee Stadium
By Jerry Trotta
It's fair to say that Edwin Encarnacion has not been quite the offensive juggernaut the Yankees thought he would embody when they acquired him from the Mariners in mid-June. Lucky for New York, their lineup is as deep as any in baseball and can afford for the three-time All-Star to erupt in random spurts. And that's exactly what the 36-year-old vet did Monday evening against the second-place Rays, ripping a missile of a home run into the left field bleachers in the fourth inning to halve Tampa Bay's lead.
That's about as well as we could put it, @KyleNYY. Edwin is literally poised to leave the ballpark in any one of his AB's.
Ironically enough, however, this big fly wasn't the gargantuan moonshots that we've grown accustomed to Encarnacion delivering throughout his 406-homer career. Aaron Boone and the rest of the Yanks coaching staff won't care for that, though.
