Just as expected, Zion Williamson is taken at No. 1 overall by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2019 NBA Draft. Though Zion looked reasonably calm prior to his name inevitably being called, the emotions of fulfilling a lifelong dream took over in his interview with ESPN's Maria Taylor after leaving the stage.

Zion broke down and had to take a break from answering questions while discussing his mother's impact on his life and career up to the draft. She remained by his side, proudly sharing in the emotions of the moment.

The reverberations were also felt in New Orleans, where fans broke into celebrations throughout the city streets. NoLa is ready to welcome Zion with open arms.
As the No. 1 pick, New Orleans is expecting big things from the rookie as he mixes his talents with those of guys like Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Jrue Holiday. Zion should be a sight to see with the Pelicans next season, there's no doubt about it.
