The NFL's Rooney Rule has come under constant criticism over the past few seasons, especially as the number of African-American head coaching opportunities seems to dwindle. There are currently only three black head coaches in the NFL, and Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy was passed over for the second straight offseason despite plenty of openings. ESPN's Domonique Foxworth made light of the situation on "Get Up!", sarcastically stating that Cowboys OC Kellen Moore will get a realistic head coaching opportunity because he's white.

He's not wrong!

Moore is still years away from a realistic head coaching opportunity, but comparing him to Bieniemy, for example, makes for an intriguing parallel. The former Boise State signal caller is working with a head coach who will likely mold the offense in his image in Mike McCarthy. The argument against Bieniemy is that he's not the true strategist of the Chiefs' explosive offense since his boss is Andy Reid. Should Moore receive the opportunity Bieniemy has been seeking for years now, then we'll have a surefire case study.

Jokes aside, African-American head coaches have every right to be frustrated at the state of the league. Despite efforts from the top to make the NFL more inclusive in terms of management positions, the league still contains zero black owners, one black GM and just three black head coaches.

Something is amiss.
