VIDEO: Former MLB Star Carlos Peña Shares Hilarious Story About Jim Thome
By James.r
Jim Thome may have retired nearly seven years ago, but his legend will never die in Cleveland. On the MLB Network, former Rays slugger and current analyst Carlos Peña told a hilarious story Monday about how Thome helped him out as he attempted to get into the All-Star Game.
The security guys had no problem turning Peña away without credentials, but as soon as Thome arrived, he was good to go.
And for good reason: Thome mashed 612 home runs during his illustrious Hall of Fame career, including 337 for the All-Star game host Indians, the team with which he spent the better part of his prime.
This is a hilarious story especially because Carlos Peña was no slouch of a power hitter himself, but only the hometown hero could bail him out.
It's always nice to hear from Thome, who it feels like just yesterday was hitting bombs out of the left-handed batter's box. This story is one for the ages.
