VIDEO: Game 6 Descends Into Parody Over Absurd 1st Base Replay Review and Everybody's Mad
By Scott Rogust

Stop us if you heard this before, but a World Series game was marred by poor officiating. The same can be said for Game 6 on Tuesday night between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros. With a man on base, Nationals second shortstop Trea Turner hit a grounder to the left side of the infield. Astros reliever Brad Peacock picks up the ball and throws an off-balance throw to first baseman Yuli Gurriel. Despite the ball getting booted at the bag, Turner was called out for... interference?

The Nationals were livid at the call. When looking at the play, Peacock's throw careened towards the first base foul line. As a result, Gurriel had to stretch his body into the base-path in order to attempt to catch the ball. Turner had no choice but to run into Gurriel's glove, because it was impeding his path!
Here's the biggest problem with that call: If Brad Peacock doesn't make a bad throw to first base, Yuli Gurriel isn't stretched into the baseline. If he's not stretched into the baseline, Trea Turner doesn't run into him.

So ... you penalize Turner for a crap Peacock throw? Huh?
Even after the lengthy review, the call shockingly and stupidly, was upheld.
Call upheld.

Unreal.
What a failure.
After the botched review, the Nationals revealed they were playing the game under protest. Shortly afterwards, Washington manager Davey Martinez was ejected for arguing and attempting to go at the umpiring crew, where he had to be held back by his coaching staff.

If you happen to log onto Twitter, there are two sides to the story. Kate Upton, wife of Astros pitcher Justin Verlander, expressed her belief that Turner wasn't within the basepath.
Not the most popular belief, based off her replies.
He wasn’t within the base path. Those who don’t know the rule you HAVE to run inside the 2 lines. Not sure why the review is taking so long... pic.twitter.com/SzUJTA4L70

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber was furious over the call, questioning why even put first base in fair territory. He sarcastically suggested MLB put a softball orange bag so everyone knows where to touch first base in foul territory.
Why put the bag in fair territory then! Go and do the softball orange safety bag so we can make it clear where to touch the bag in FOUL territory. Such a bad rule pic.twitter.com/VicFsyi9We

What should be a highly competitive game was slowed down and blemished by shoddy umpiring.

"He's right there..."
"...And he's sitting with his head down trying not to look up."

There are no winners in this. That much is clear.
Hey, at least Anthony Rendon cleansed everyone's palate in a hurry.
