VIDEO: Gary Sanchez Discussing His Groin Injury Only Cements Fact Yankees Should Rest Him
By Scott Rogust
The New York Yankees had a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, and the team took both games as well as the series. However, the injury bug struck hard, taking Edwin Encarnacion, JA Happ and Gary Sanchez down in the process. New York's catcher suffered a left groin strain when attempting to steal second base. After being pulled from the game, Sanchez told the media that his injury is similar to the one he suffered earlier this season.
Back in July Sanchez missed 16 games with the same exact injury. He's scheduled to undergo tests in New York to determine the severity.
Do the Yankees really need anymore confirmation to sit him as much as possible until the playoffs start?
New York has enough injuries. Aaron Boone simply cannot risk playing guys like Sanchez down the stretch. Sure, the Yanks want homefield advantage, but the division is already all but locked up and the more important aspect is being at full strength when the competition gets even tougher.
Rest Gary and anyone else dealing with nagging issues. It's not worth it anymore.
