VIDEO: Gary Thorne Calling All 13 Gleyber Torres Homers Against Orioles is Joyfully Depressing
By Sean Facey
Gleyber Torres' domination of the Baltimore Orioles has been one of the hottest stories in baseball this year. When he squares off against his AL East rivals, he's statistically a more fearsome offensive force than the likes of Babe Ruth or Barry Bonds. But we can't forget about the guys on the receiving end of this shellacking. Orioles broadcaster Gary Thorne has had to endure all 13 of Torres' home runs against Baltimore this year, and his reactions are joyfully depressing.
You can hear the frustration growing in his voice from the first home run to the 13th. At some points, he's even been at a loss for words.
But when a player is slashing .414/.485/1.138 against you, it's hard not to just let your jaw drop and watch in disbelief.
In his 12 years of broadcasting for MASN, it's probably safe to say he's never seen anything like this. It's costing Thorne his sanity, and it's absolutely delightful to watch.
