VIDEO: Genard Avery Got a Sack in His Literal 1st Snap as an Eagle After Browns Foolishly Traded Him
By Chris Russo
The Cleveland Browns have been living an absolute nightmare in 2019. Despite the lofty expectations they entered the season with, they find themselves at 2-6, sitting in the cellar of the AFC North. The release of Jermaine Whitehead following his absurd Twitter tirade, as well Baker Mayfield's incredibly homeless-esque appearance at his postgame press conference, only added fuel to the fire. But the icing on the cake has to be the fact the team released Genard Avery, who quickly latched on with the Eagles, and proceeded to record a snack on his very first SNAP with his new team.
Avery made his Eagles debut against the Bears, and it really didn't take long for him to make an impact.
The linebacker proved himself a quality player as a rookie in 2018, when he recorded 4.5 sacks, 5 tackles for loss, 4 passes defended, and 40 combined tackles. He played all 16 games, but he only started five.
Yet, despite his solid production as a rookie, he featured on just five total snaps for the Browns this season, logging one tackle. The Browns, who don't boast a particularly strong group of linebackers, especially with Christian Kirksley sidelined, still felt Avery was surplus to requirements.
The Browns completely misused Avery's talents this season, but maybe the Eagles will actually use him to his full potential.
