VIDEO: George Springer and Jose Altuve Go Back-to-Back in 1st Inning to Give Astros Lead Over Tigers
By Karl Rasmussen
The Detroit Tigers got on the board in the first inning against Aaron Sanchez, but their lead didn't last long. Spencer Turnbull was tasked with handling the Astros' lineup, and he didn't get off to a good start. He served up an opposite field blast to George Springer in Houston's first at bat of the game. Things got worse when Jose Altuve came to the plate as the very next batter and also parked one in the seats.
Springer's leadoff home run was the 34th of his career, and he is up to 27 homers on the season.
Meanwhile, Altuve is approaching his career high of 24, with this latest homer being his 23rd of the year.
The Astros continue to be impossible to stop at the plate, and Spencer Turnbull and the Tigers are struggling to contain their explosive bats early on.
