VIDEO: Gio Urshela Pulls Off Incredibly Athletic Slide to Score on Wild Pitch
By Michael Luciano

The New York Yankees took back the lead against the Toronto Blue Jays when Marcus Stroman threw a wild pitch, Gio Urshela made a mad dash to home, and the Yankees infielder evaded the tag of Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen to give the team a 3-2 lead. It may sound fairly benign, but Urshela pulled off one of the most athletic plays you'll ever see in a situation like this, contorting like Gumby to elude Jansen and score.

We've seen all kinds of trick slides, we've seen players lower their shoulder like a middle linebacker and run over a catcher -- looking at you, Jake Marisnick -- and Chris Coghlan soaring over Yadier Molina to avoid a tag, but we've never seen someone come to almost a full stop, bend out of the way, and then speed up again.
In his breakout season, Gio is seemingly incapable of messing up.
Never seen a feet-first trick slide, but Gio continues to surprise me.

Oh, and he made a 5-star defensive play earlier in the game at third base.
Hot bat, hot glove! ???

What a play by Gio Urshela.
The Yankees and Blue Jays are tied at two through four and a half innings.#YANKSonYES pic.twitter.com/2ER3uKX28Y
Troy Tulowitzki's injury appears to have been a blessing in disguise for the Yankees, who have become the beneficiary of one of the most improbably great seasons in 2019.
