VIDEO: Gleyber Torres and Mike Ford Go Yard in 2nd Inning as Yankees Pounce on Mariners
By Scott Rogust
The New York Yankees continue their West Coast trend of striking first on the scoreboard. After the first inning, Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais took out opener Matt Wisler, replacing him wtih Tommy Milone. On Milone's very first pitch of the game, Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres smashed the ball deep to center field to give New York an early 1-0 lead.
That was Torres' 33rd homer of the year, which measured at a staggering 438 feet, the longest hit the young shortstop has recorded this season.
The Yankees weren't done imposing their will there. Shortly afterwards, catcher Austin Romine knocked in Mike Tauchman for an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0. Milone couldn't stop the bleeding, as he surrendered a two-run homer to first baseman Mike Ford to make it 4-0 Yankees in the second.
This is going to be a long series for the Seattle Mariners.
