VIDEO: Gleyber Torres Unloads Towering 3-Run Shot to Extend Yankee Lead
By Kevin Aquino
Yankees All-Star Gleyber Torres added to his home run count for the 2019 MLB season, making it 38 on this hit off Angels pitcher Jose Suarez. The big whack extended the Bronx Bombers' lead to 8-0 at home.
The highlight is merely Torres' latest, and there'll be more where that came from as the Yankees eye the postseason as the top team in the AL East.
Torres has improved his batting average despite fighting off a core injury, going from last season's .271 to .284 this year. As an All-Star selection in both of his major league seasons, the Yankees have a bonafide star in the 22-year-old. Torres is the second Yankee to hit 30 home runs in a single season at age 22 or younger, joining Joe DiMaggio who hit 46 home runs in 1937.
