VIDEO: Gregg Williams Claps Back at Odell Beckham Jr for Claiming DC's Past Defenses Targeted Him
By Parker White
The New York Jets host the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football this week, and there's a little drama heading into this AFC matchup. Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. spoke to the media and accused Gregg Williams, the Jets' current defensive coordinator and former Browns DC, of having players target him in past match-ups. When asked about it on Friday, Williams brushed it off and refused to call OBJ one of the most dynamic players in the league.
It would appear Williams is a little salty. Maybe a lot salty.
Williams didn't even want to acknowledge that OBJ existed, saying "Odell who?"
Williams also went on to say that his reputation is clean and that he's never targeted players, which is frankly untrue.
“I just found out about it," Williams said. "But we have several players who have already come out and mentioned things that I did. We don’t do that. Never done it anywhere that I’ve been. We don’t do anything to hurt the team.”
Of course, this is the same Gregg Williams who was suspended by the NFL for all of the 2012 season because of the "Bountygate" scandal down in New Orleans.
It's irresponsible to suggest Williams didn't learn from his mistake and went after Beckham in an earlier matchup. Still, Williams insinuating he's been clean his entire career is potentially even more harmful.
