By Michael Luciano

After being originally met with derision and genuine bewilderment when he was first revealed to the world, Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty has quickly risen through the ranks and become one of the most recognizable and beloved mascots in the league in such a short time. Beyond just being goofy, the big orange whatever-he-is has shown that he has a heart of gold. Look no further than when he met with a passionate seven-year-old Flyers fan with a custom Gritty prosthetic leg.

While the Flyers haven't been anything to write home about on the ice, Gritty's popularity continues to soar every day. Grittymania still hasn't died down, as he was voted as the fans' favorite mascot at the NFL Fan Choice Awards.
