VIDEO: Howie Kendrick Launches Clutch Grand Slam to Give Nats Lead in 10th Inning
By Karl Rasmussen
The Los Angeles Dodgers appeared in prime position to put the game away and advance to the NLCS. And then the bullpen came in. Clayton Kershaw immediately surrendered back-to-back jacks as the Nationals tied up the game, and when extra innings came around, the Nats took full advantage. After loading up the bases without recording an out, Howie Kendrick came to the plate and promptly knocked everyone in. Grand slam.
Kendrick's base-clearing blast put the Nats up four runs as Joe Kelly was unable to keep the game tied. Howie's defensive struggles in the series can be forgotten about as he ended up playing hero for the Nats in extras.
Dave Roberts' bullpen decisions plagued LA in this one, and it brings up the question of why Kenley Jansen wasn't brought into the game earlier.
