VIDEO: Indians Botching Potential Game-Ending Double Play Against Mets is Even Worse in Slow Motion
By Thomas Carannante

In what world is the first baseman throwing home here, Brad? The Cleveland Indians held a 3-2 lead over the New York Mets in the bottom of the 10th and manager Terry Francona probably felt confident in his team's chances of capturing the win and gaining a game on the Minnesota Twins. Well, he was sadly mistaken, as Brad Hand blew the save and made a horrible defensive gaffe to make it even worse. With runners on first and third and one out, Michael Conforto hit a sharp grounder to Carlos Santana, who threw to second base in an attempt to turn the game-ending double play. But nobody covered first because ... Hand thought Santana would be throwing to home?

OK, even if he was throwing home, why are you running in that direction? This is 100% on Hand, and his lack of awareness cost the Indians what should have been a win. Instead, they've dropped two games to the Mets and, well, look and sound like the Mets we're all used to.

“I kind of stopped, expected him to go home. Once he wasn’t throwing it home, I didn’t have a chance to get over there in time. Tough play.”
After Conforto's grounder scored the game-tying run, JD Davis creamed a walk-off single two batters later to give the Mets a 4-3 win.
