VIDEO: Indians Fans Boo Pete Alonso After He Knocks Carlos Santana Out of Home Run Derby
By Sean Facey
Pete Alonso didn't make himself any new friends in Cleveland on Monday. The rookie sensation of the New York Mets drew the ire of Indians fans in attendance for the Home Run Derby after he eliminated hometown star Carlos Santana in the first round.
Alonso walked off Santana in the waning seconds of the first round, blasting his 14th home run to send the Indians first baseman packing.
It would have been nice to see Santana advance past the first round while playing in front of his team's fans. Hometown stars have a knack for shining late in the event, but he just didn't get the chance thanks to Alonso, and the fans were more than willing to make their feelings known.
