VIDEO: Indians' Mike Clevinger Has Perfect Response to How Astros' Scandal is More Significant Than Fans Think
By Sean Facey
The Houston Astros' cheating scandal has been largely met with a sour response from MLB fans everywhere, but a hefty contingent seem to be OK with the punishment the team received. Still, more have brushed the sign-stealing off as "part of the game." But Cleveland Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger had an eloquent response as to why this matter is nothing to shrug off.
It's easy for outside viewers to label all sign-stealing as more of the same in baseball, but as Clevinger says, what the Astros did altered careers.
A rookie making his debut against Houston could have gotten roughed up and sent back to the minors, further delaying his process to carve out a legitimate MLB career.
Their cheating ways potentially erased hundreds of hours of blood, sweat and tears put in by other players.
By gaining an unfair advantage over unsuspecting opponents, they laid waste to years of grinding, and they may have even robbed those opponents of millions of dollars in potential future contracts.
