VIDEO: Indians RHP Carlos Carrasco Completes Successful Rehab Outing in Battle Back Post-Leukemia
By Mark Powell
Just under three months ago, Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco was diagnosed with leukemia. With his MLB future in doubt, Carrasco left the game ever so briefly to receive proper treatment, and is now cancer-free. The Indians hope 'Cookie' can contribute in their playoff push, but first the righty needs to prove himself in a few rehab starts. So far, so good.
Carrasco made a rehab start in Akron on Monday night, and threw one strong inning with a strikeout included. It's unknown exactly how Carrasco fits into the Indians' plans this season, or if he'd be considered a bullpen piece or an asset to the starting rotation. Either way, it's pretty incredible what Carrasco's been able to accomplish thus far just months after his diagnosis. What's to come, however, could be even greater.
