VIDEO: James Conner Scores From 12 Yards Out to Extend Steelers' Early Lead Over Chargers on SNF
By Jerry Trotta
Who saw this coming? Traveling across the country ready to deploy their third-string quarterback, who is making his first NFL start, the Pittsburgh Steelers are surprisingly giving it to the Los Angeles Chargers in the early stages of Sunday Night Football. Rookie linebacker Devin Bush got the party started early by returning a Melvin Gordon fumble to the house, and tailback James Conner joined the fun roughly six minutes later by punching a handoff in from 12 yards out to give Mike Tomlin and Co. a 14-0 first quarter lead.
We'll hazard a guess and say that the Chargers overlooked their under-manned opponents.
The Steelers literally couldn't have asked for a better start to this one as they continue to embrace the underdog role.
