VIDEO: Jason Heyward Gets Cubs on Board With HR and Willson Contreras Throws Out Runner From Knees
By Parker White
Jason Heyward hasn't fared too well in the leadoff spot for the Chicago Cubs this season, but manager Joe Maddon penciled him in on Friday and it paid off big time. On the third pitch of the game against the Milwaukee Brewers, Heyward went deep to center field into the basket.
Heyward may be seeing more games hitting at the top of the lineup, especially since he's having a sneaky 2019 campaign where he's hitting .279 with 16 home runs and an .819 OPS. Those may not be gaudy numbers, but Heyward is getting on base and his power numbers have increased.
Before Heyward got the Cubs on the board quickly at Wrigley, catcher Willson Contreras nipped a potential Brewers rally in the bud by throwing Keston Hiura at second base from his knees.
That wasn't just some quick throw from his knees -- that was CANNON from a difficult position.
The Cubs have high-level players all over the roster, and in the first inning it was on full display.
