VIDEO: JaVale McGee Claims Kyrie Irving Wants to Go to Brooklyn in Free Agency
By Jerry Trotta
While Kevin Durant sits out the NBA Finals with a calf injury, fellow free agent-to be, and potential future teammate, Kyrie Irving, has taken over a huge chunk of the buzz in recent days. The superstar point guard was caught checking out apartments on the Upper East Side of Manhattan earlier today, fueling rumors that Irving is destined to call either Madison Square Garden or the Barclays Center his future home. And on FS1's Undisputed, Lakers big man JaVale McGee threw in his two cents on the never-ending conversation, claiming that Kyrie fancies the idea of playing for the Nets over the Knicks.
"I'm hearing New York," said Javale. "But the way that things are shuffling right now, Kyrie wants to go to Brooklyn. There's so many things that could happen."
It's important to note that we should take everything that McGee says with a grain of salt as the 31-year-old vet boldly asserted that his dysfunctional Lakers would've made the Western Conference Finals if not for LeBron James' injury.
Could JaVale be piggy-backing off of Stephen A. Smith's report that Kyrie does in fact plan to commit to the Nets on June 30? Perhaps, but the two-time NBA champ sounded anything but confident in assessing Irving's future, though not many seem to have any concrete evidence of where he'll end up.
Confident or not, McGee is siding with the very popular opinion that the former Duke star will be teaming up with D'Angelo Russell in Brooklyn before too long. We'll know soon enough if he was right.
