VIDEO: JD Martinez Mashes 2-Run Homer to Deep Center Field
By Parker White

The Boston Red Sox got behind the eight ball in the first inning after Chris Sale was knocked around by his former club to the tune of 3 runs, but they quickly responded thanks to a JD Martinez mashing a 2-run homer to deep left-center field over the Green Monster. Take a look:

Very quietly, that's Martinez's 17th home runs of the season. He may not be having the same season he had last year or generating quite the same fanfare, but he's still crushing the ball and has an OPS close to .900.
He's still a great player and likely the All-Star starter at designated hitter.
Reynaldo Lopez hasn't been good protecting leads all year. He gets a three-spot in the first, and allows a two-run homer to JD Martinez. Just cleared the Monster in left-center, his 17th on a 1-1 pitch.

Martinez has been having a tough time over the last week, hitting below .200 with zero home runs, but he's ending the month of June with a bang.
