VIDEO: Jermell Charlo Ends Jorge Cota With Thunderous 3rd-Round KO
By Brendan Azoff
After Jorge Cota got up from a vicious right hook that appeared to distend his understanding of time and space, Jermell Charlo put him right back on the mat, ending Sunday night's PBC bout via technical knockout in the third round. Charlo picked up his 17th professional KO, and this one came in authentically violent fashion.
Charlo's one-two combo arrived with blazing speed, improving his record to an impressive 33-1. Charlo showed his dominance in this super welterweight bout through an impressive display of power.
The referee may face some criticism for letting Cota continue fighting, as he was all but dead on his feet after getting up from the first knockdown, but nonetheless, Charlo's right hand was the difference maker in this fight-- and it was always going to be.
