VIDEO: Jesse Winker Has Unreal Brainfart and Tries to Steal 2nd Base on Appeal Play at 3rd
By Mark Powell
Jesse Winker, meet tootblan. The Reds put up some crooked numbers on Kevin Gausman and the Braves, but might've gotten a little too casual in the top of the fourth inning in Atlanta. Cincinnati slugger Jesse Winker tried to steal second base and give his team a spark with two outs in the frame. Unfortunately for Winker, he attempted such a maneuver during an appeal play at third base, and was easily thrown out.
Winker thought he'd catch the Braves napping, but Gausman was desperate for outs at this juncture, hoping to keep Atlanta in the game for their powerful offense.
For the Braves, these are games they need to win should they wish to relieve some of the pressure being placed on them by the Washington Nationals. However, the Reds are no pushover, especially with the recent acquisition of Trevor Bauer from the Indians.
