VIDEO: Jets Gain 33 Yards After Adam Gase Successfully Challenges Pass Interference Call
By Scott Rogust
History was made on Thursday night in the "Battle for New York/New Jersey" between the Jets and Giants. The NFL debuted the pass interference challenge rule, and it wasn't exactly utilized to its greatest ability. That was until the "Snoopy Bowl." Giants rookie cornerback Corey Ballentine appeared to have a brilliant pass breakup on Jets receiver Tim White in the third quarter. However, Jets head coach Adam Gase threw the challenge flag, and it paid off.
As you can see, Ballentine held onto White's wrist before the ball was thrown in their direction. NFL officials saw this, and ruled it a 33-yard gain for the Jets.
The pass interference challenge rule was used to perfection in this case. One can only hope it continues heading into the regular season, when the games matter.
