VIDEO: Joe Maddon Couldn't Be More Wrong Regarding Carl Edwards Jr.-Sean Doolittle Delivery Debate
By Thomas Carannante
When you're wrong, you're wrong, and Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon shoud probably face the music. The veteran skipper argued during Saturday night's game that Washington Nationals closer Sean Doolittle's delivery should be illegal considering MLB umpires deemed Cubs reliever Carl Edwards Jr.'s similar motion illegal earlier in the year. However, while similar, they aren't really the same, as you can see from this clip:
Doolittle's delivery features him quickly tapping his toe and continuing with his delivery, while Edwards Jr. clearly planted his foot, paused, and then made an entire separate motion before finally throwing the pitch. While it's understandable why Maddon would express concern regarding this, it's clear that Edwards Jr.'s delivery is more extreme in this instance.
Once Doolittle gets a hold of this video, I'm sure he'll have some more shots to take at Maddon and the Cubs.
