VIDEO: Jonathan Villar's 3-Run Shot Sets MLB Record for Most Homers Hit in a Single Season

2019 will officially be known as the season of the home run in MLB history. On Wednesday, Jonathan Villar hit the league's 6,106th homer of the season, setting a new MLB record.

In the year of the juiced ball, it's no surprise that the single-season home run record was shattered by the league. With sluggers like Pete Alonso, Mike Trout, Cody Bellinger and Jorge Soler devastating opposing pitchers, expect the tally to raise significantly from 6,106 by the season's end.

Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon hit the 5,694th homer in the 2017 season, breaking the previous record set in 2000, and now it was Villar who claimed the record in 2019.
