VIDEO: Josh Donaldson and Nick Markakis Lead the Way as Braves Hit 4 Homers in 2nd Inning vs Pirates
By Joey Mauceri
It's not very often we see power hitting displays like the Braves put on in the second inning of Tuesday night's matchup with the Pirates. They launched four long balls off Chris Archer in the same inning, reclaiming the lead early on. Josh Donaldson got the home run parade started, stepping up to the dish with his squad in a 2-0 hole.
That had to feel good for Donaldson, who is currently appealing a suspension over a brawl with the Pirates on Monday night.
Nick Markakis then followed up Donaldson with a solo shot of his own, taking the offering from Archer and depositing it over the center field wall to tie the game.
It wouldn't be long until Atlanta would capture the lead, as Brian McCann clubbed this tater the opposite way to give the Braves a 3-2 lead.
Apparently three homers wasn't enough for the Braves, as Ozzie Albies then followed up McCann with his 10th homer of the season, and gave Atlanta a pair of back-to-back home runs in the inning.
It seems Archer decided to throw nothing but meatballs in the inning, as a 2-0 Pirates lead quickly vaporized courtesy of the four solo home runs.
Hey, it's still one less than Phillies' pitcher Jerad Eickhoff on Monday night, who gave up five solo shots against the Diamondbacks before promptly being demoted to the bullpen.
