VIDEO: Josh McCown Hilariously Covers His Face When Greeting Ex-Teammate Sam Darnold
By Michael Luciano
While New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is likely fully recovered from his bout with mononucleosis, he wasn't feeling well enough to suit up at quarterback against his old mentor Josh McCown and the Philadelphia Eagles. McCown, who was the backup for Darnold during his formative rookie season, wanted to finally meet up with No. 14 before their respective teams duked it out. But aware of Darnold's illness, McCown took a jab at his buddy by covering up his mouth when they met on the field in Philly.
Very funny, Josh. I'm sure Sam loved that.
Darnold, despite getting almost all of the reps with the starters, won't play today, leaving former Washington State star Luke Falk in line for his second career start and journeyman David Fales as the backup.
Jets head coach Adam Gase has been criticized for both allowing Darnold to prepare to play when there was a chance he could rupture his spleen, and not giving Falk any starter reps despite the fact Darnold was not 100% healthy.
While a McCown illness wouldn't torpedo the Eagles' season like it has with the Jets, it's probably best for all parties involved if McCown isn't sidelined for a month because he caught some of what Darnold had.
