VIDEO: Kris Bryant Breaks Scoreless Deadlock With Solo Shot to Give Cubs Lead Over Pirates
By Karl Rasmussen
Yu Darvish and Chris Archer, both of whom endured miserable first halves of the season, were locked in a pitcher's duel in the first game back from the All-Star break. Well, eventually one side had to fold, right? And fortunately for the Cubs, it was Archer, as he surrendered a solo shot to Kris Bryant in the bottom of the seventh frame, just the third hit he'd given up on the night.
Archer had been finding his spot all afternoon, but left a meatball hanging over the plate, which Bryant took full advantage of.
The solo blast was KB's 18th of the season, and he now has 45 RBI under his belt as he looks to help the Cubs extend their division lead in the second half.
