VIDEO: Kyle Schwarber Plays Catcher While Cubs Backup Taylor Davis Pitches in Wild Display
By Scott Rogust
The Chicago Cubs had a rough go of things on Tuesday night, but you can't say they sent fans home without a unique experience. Holding a narrow lead in the NL Central, the Cubs needed to hold off the Oakland Athletics. Instead, Cubs starter Jon Lester was tagged for 10 earned runs on 10 hits in Tuesday's 11-4 loss to Oakland. With the game completely out of reach by the ninth inning, Cubs fans got to see a weird display. Catcher Taylor Davis was sent to the pitcher's mound by manager Joe Maddon, and he had to send his pitches to catcher...Kyle Schwarber.
Remember when Schwarber used to play catcher? Yeah, we remember, and we got to walk down memory lane on Tuesday, as he caught pitches from one-night pitcher Taylor Davis.
Let's never do this again, though, Mr. Maddon? This masher is far too valuable.
