VIDEO: Lions Get Bailed Out Against Giants With Horrible 'Running Into the Kicker' Call

After weeks of calls going against the Detroit Lions, punter Sam Martin might have just been the beneficiary of one of the worst calls of the season. New York Giants linebacker David Mayo tried in vain to block Martin's punt, and ended up brushing against the side of Martin's leg. Martin pirouetted to the ground, earning a 5-yard penalty in the process and extending a deceased drive, resulting in three points for the Lions.

If accidentally grazing the side of a punter's foot qualifies as running into him, than NFL officials have truly lost the plot and are just making stuff up.

Bless Martin's hard for having a theatrical side to him, though. We wouldn't have pegged him for a theater kid.

Of course, following this embellished nonsense, the Lions got back to the edge of field goal range, and Matt Prater drilled a 52-yarder.

The Giants were denied both a final drive and the chance to keep this a one-point game at half, at the very worst. Detroit starts the second half with the ball. Stunning!
